The Evidence of Love - video installation, 4 min loop, 2004 (Exhibited at West Space, Melbourne) The room is set up like a female teenager’s bedroom. Clothes, books, notes passed in class are scattered across the floor. There are pictures on the wall – band posters, drawings and photographs of a teenage romance. There is a bed in the room as well as a desk. On the desk is a diary (150 pages approx) filled with the scrawl of a teenage girl’s life, and more specifically about the relationship she had with her first serious boyfriend. (This is the boy in the pictures on the wall). The diary details how they met, fell in love, had sex, and then broke up. There is a video projected onto the wall opposite the desk. It is a montage sequence of the romance lived out. Specific events written about in the diary happen on the screen and the bedroom in the video is exactly the same as the bedroom the viewer is sitting in. The video is played as a loop. The sound changes - at first it is dark and then poppy and then more sexual. Soundtrack by Phillip Pietruschka.
